Kansas Voting 101

Register to vote at ksvotes.org !

🚨 2026 Deadlines

- October 13th: Deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration to change address or name only to participate in the 2026 general election.

- October 14th: First day of advance voting. Advance ballots by mail are transmitted. In-person advance voting may begin. Check with your county election office for specific times and locations.

- October 27th: In-person advance voting must begin for all counties.

- November 2nd: Early voting must end in all counties by noon.

- November 3rd: Election!

🔍 Anyone in Kansas can register to vote as long as they are: (1) a U.S. Citizen, (2) at least 18 on Election Day, and (3) not currently in prison, on probation, or on parole for a felony conviction. 

🧑‍🎓 College students can register and vote at their college address OR at their permanent/home address. Any college address including a dorm can be considered your residence. Kansas has no residency restriction except the 21-day voter registration deadline (KSA 25-407).

Voter Photo ID

A Kansas College Student ID or a Driver’s License from any state may be used as your photo ID for voting (KSA 25-2908(h)).

Voting by Mail

Request a Mail Ballot
Any voter in Kansas may request a mail ballot at: KSVotes.org. The mail ballot application asks for a Kansas Drivers License or Kansas Non-Drivers ID number. If you do not have either of these you may submit a copy/picture of an alternative photo ID (such as a Student ID) to the county election office. If you apply through KSVotes.org without a Kansas Driver’s/Non-Driver’s License then you will receive an email that you can reply to with a picture of your photo ID to submit it to the county election office.

Complete the Mail Ballot
Once you receive your mail ballot follow the instructions to complete it. Make sure you seal the ballot in the return envelope it came with and sign the envelope.

Hand Return the Mail Ballot
You may return the mail ballot by hand in the county you are registered to vote in including (1) the county election office, (2) any early voting location in the county, (3) any mail ballot drop box in the county, (4) any voting location in the county on Election Day.

If you mail your ballot back be sure to attach the proper number of stamps (if necessary) and put it in the mail as early as possible to ensure it arrives back on time.
