How to vote provisionally

What is a provisional ballot?: A provisional ballot is cast at your polling place when you are unable to prove in the moment either your identity or that you have not already received a ballot. 🚨 If you requested a mail-in ballot but never received it you can vote provisionally. The Sec. of State site says:

There are a number of instances where an individual may be provided with a provisional ballot. The most common include:
• Failure to provide photographic identification
• Address change
• Name change
• Already issued a ballot

HOW TO CAST A PROVISIONAL BALLOT
1. Before receiving a ballot, individuals must complete a new voter registration application form. This form will be attached to the provisional ballot envelope.
2. Individuals will then be allowed to complete their ballot. Provisional ballots are in the form of paper ballots, regardless of the type of voting equipment used in the county.
3. Once complete, the individual will place their ballot in the envelope, seal it and return the ballot to an election board worker.
4. The provisional ballot envelope will have the specific eligibility issue written on it. Two election board workers will sign the envelope and write the word “provisional” next to the individual’s name in the poll book.
5. Envelopes containing provisional ballots are secured and placed with other provisional ballots.
6. Provisional ballots are not counted on election day. They are set aside for consideration by the board of county canvassers who certifies the election results for each respective county.
