In contrast to the Nation, Kansas had a large shift away from far-right politics in 2016. Although, still dominated by a Republican trifecta supermajority, the Democrats picked up a state senate seat and 12 state house seats while more centrist Republicans took 9 state senate seats and 7 state house seats. It is expected that a coalition in opposition to far-right politics will form creating a majority large enough to pass and oppose bills, but not large enough to override a veto from the Governor.
